After the night of partying, the players will then have Saturday to ‘get serious’ and make final preparations for the grueling games which are on Sunday, the 5th and Monday, the 6th at the Lauderhill Sports Complex, 7500 West Oakland Park Blvd., Lauderhill, FL 33313. Soccer Defending Champions Rusea’s High will seek to maintain their hold on the National Weekly Cup amid strong challenges from Cornwall College, Wolmer’s Boys and Jamaica College, among others. The ladies from Ardenne will once again aspire to prove their Netball dominance despite being challenged by Vere Tech, Queens High and Meadowbrook High, to name a few. The winning teams will also receive cash prizes and donations will be made to their respective schools in Jamaica. Sponsors include: National Weekly, Western Union, Jamaica National, Victoria Mutual, Caribbean Americas Soccer Association, Carib United FC, DEmpire Management and Community Youth Sports Development.
Between 20 April and 15 July, BP released some 4.9 million barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Within weeks of the leak being plugged, researchers reported on the oil's rapid disappearance. The Kingston21.Info research team visited Jamaica recently to assess overall conditions given the recent uprising the now captured gangster, alleged drug king pin Christopher “Dudus” Coke. This firsthand research visit was partially due to serious concerns being expressed particularly by Jamaicans and others residents of South Florida alarmed about happenings in Kingston, Jamaica. One of the things that hurts our ears the most is to hear people born in Jamaica stating that they will never return to the country of their birth, due to out of control crime and violence.
Kingston21.Info is happy to report that although extreme violence is still a very serious problem in Jamaica, the overall atmosphere was surprisingly calm as people busily went about their business, trying to put the incidents of recent months behind them. Most people appeared to be more comfortable moving around, even at night time. The fear that had permeated the air in recent years appeared to have subsided somewhat, although most people said that it is advisable to maintain a high level of alertness. While the presence of soldiers and police officers was not overbearing in most areas of Kingston, it was clear that they were making their presence felt. For some persons, this was actually a reason for a measure of comfort, given the poor track record demonstrated by lax emergency response of the Jamaican security forces over the years, where some people claim that without fail, “di Babylon dem reach when di bad bwoy dem do dem wickidniss and gone.” (Ask a Jamaican to interpret the previous statement for you).
Truthfully, we at Kingston21.info were skeptical regarding whether Dudus’ capture and the state of emergency would lead to such a positive difference in the level of serious crime. Tivoli Gardens for many years has been regarded as the most well structured, impenetrable garrison community in Jamaica. Some have even claimed that it existed as a micro-state with its own “government” including a “justice system” within the larger Jamaican state.
It appears to us also that the dramatic fall of Tivoli Gardens and the demise of its “government” has caused other dons and area leaders of inner city communities to get really scared (bad man ketch dem fraid). It is reported that the fear of similar treatment being meted out in their communities, has led many of these “ruling gangsters” to migrate to other parts of the island where they are unwelcome and remain undercover.
We at Kingston21.info continue to hope and pray for peace in Jamaica. We encourage the security forces to keep up the pressure on the criminals, thwarting their attempts to participate in activities that escalate the level of violent crimes. All well thinking Jamaicans must do whatever we can to relegate the ridiculously high levels of crime that have destroyed Jamaica’s peaceful reputation, to the sad past. Let us move forward with love in our hearts, care for others and a healthy respect for human life.

If you live in South Florida you have options for great cellular service with all the major players, T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and of course Verizon. However, cell plans aren't cheap and in these times do we need a device smaller than the palm of your hand burning a giant hole in your wallet? Kingston21's answer, MetroPCS. All the hype about dropped calls is a little overrated, their service is decent, and their prices are fantastic. So if you are looking to trim a few dollars from your budget, give MetroPCS a try.

MetroPCS, a company known for their low priced cellular plans and lack of annual contracts, has just announced that it will be adding the BlackBerry Curve 8530 to its lineup. The Curve 8530 can be purchased for $279 ($229 after a $50 MIR), and for $60 a month will include: “unlimited talk, text, Web and data service, Wi-Fi connectivity, e-mail, and turn-by-turn GPS navigation [...] including all applicable taxes and regulatory fees.” Say what you want about MetroPCS’ urban-centric coverage map, $60 per month for unlimited usage — including taxes — on a smartphone is pretty impressive.

Al Miller (who might find himself in some trouble with authorities) and outstanding work by the security forces, Christopher “Dudus” Coke has been peacefully taken into custody. Jamaicans all around the world, including most of us in Kingston21 (South Florida) have all breathed a collective huge sigh of relief. The bad publicity that Jamaica has earned over the past month continues to be a huge cost to the country in terms of its reputation for A-class hospitality, Irie Vibes, Cool Runnings. Jamaica –No Problem has been switched to Jamaica –Nuff Problem! The country has suffered much economically and socially, losing much of its goodwill. As has been implied in some other articles, even though the main problem is concentrated in a small area of Jamaica, the entire country, the Jamaican diaspora, and the “global Friends of Jamaica constituency” have felt the severe consequential pain.
Many questions now arise. Will Dudus be extradited to the United States for crimes he is accused of there? Will Dudus face the Jamaica court system for the criminal acts that he has allegedly committed in Jamaica over the years? Will Dudus be imprisoned in Jamaica? Will Dudus survive in the custody of Jamaica authorities, given the strange circumstances under which his father, Jim Brown died? Will the Shower Posse disintegrate? Will Dudus’ outspoken supporters in Tivoli Gardens remain peaceful and quiet? Will the many other gangs in Jamaica be disbanded or rendered non-functional by the security forces? Will crime in Jamaica return to “reasonable levels”?
The above questions are definitely open to debate, and there will be numerous varying points of view. One thing we know for sure is that Jamaica has waited too long to start cleaning up its act with respect to the reduction of crime and violence. We hope that this is a turning point in the history of Jamaica and that those in authority will stay dedicated to stamping out all forms of crime and corruption. All people living in Jamaica deserve to feel safe anywhere in Jamaica conducting business, going to school, eating out, attending church and participating in our numerous, varied cultural entertainment events, whether it be day or night.
