Well anybody in the Dance Hall Fraternity as well as the Reggae Fraternity has heard the stunning news regarding the US Visa woes of top Dancehall acts such as Beenie Man, Bounty Killer and Mavado, just to name some. For reasons still to be clarified the U.S. Visas of these top Jamaican Dancehall acts have been revoked. Not only does this mean almost certain revenue shortfalls for the aforementioned artists, but also their inability to perform for their die-hard American based fans.
One of the Shows that seemed likely to be affected when the shocking news reverberated around the globe last month (April), was the Memorial Weekend bumper concert known as the Best of the Best 2010 concert, set for Bicentennial Park on Sunday, May 30. However, the indomitable promoters for the show (the South Florida arm of which is Rockers Island Promotions) showed their resourcefulness, by booking the power-house Reggae acts, Barrington Levy, Cocoa Tea and “The Fireman” Capleton as replacements.
Barrington Levy who doesn’t perform enough in South Florida in my opinion, is certain to thrill the crowd at Bicentennial Park, just as he did for the very first Best of the Best Concert in 2007. Now a veteran in the Reggae music business, Barrington’s signature vocal style has been proven to thrill all age ranges, from young to old, and all lovers of reggae music, whatever their nationality. And as for Cocoa Tea, well this veteran artist only needs to sing one note to drive the ladies crazy. Those Dancehall/Reggae fans who like to get that adrenalin rush when they attend a concert are assured of doing so, once “the fire-man” hits the stage. If it’s one thing Capleton can do, it is to bring instant energy and excitement to any audience. Best of the Best Concert 2010, it’s going to be a blast!!!
